Fire doors will only do their job, and protect against the spread of fire, if they are kept in good working order. Studies by the Fire Protection Association, undertaken within the last five years, show that more than 75% of fire door installations fail to meet required standards. Property managers, landlords and business owners have a legal responsibility to keep fire doors in a good state of repair.
While an annual check is often frequent enough, trade organisations such as the BWF Fire Door Alliance recommend that a responsible person carries out fire door maintenance on a six-monthly basis.
Our fire door specialists maintain installations in the areas below:
Croydon | Dorking | Epsom | Kingston | Sutton | Wallington | Wimbledon
You can also use us as your preferred fire door maintenance team if you need our support in any location across South London or Surrey.
There is more to South London Fire Doors Ltd than the supply and the installation of doors. We offer a complete range of solutions to include services in the capacity of a fire door manufacturer. It is also possible to choose us as your fire door replacement specialist.
To ensure consistent performance from fire doors, it is important to book in for fire door maintenance at recommended intervals. When you manage properties, you will have an obligation under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to keep all fire doors operational.
Our fire door specialists will visit your site on an agreed date, at an agreed time, to inspect and, if needed, maintain an installation.
Checks from our fire door maintenance team include:
Ratings
The responsible person checks for a label, or a coloured plug, and this tells them the product’s fire rating. An uncertified door may not have the specification needed to protect people and property.
Gaps and Seals
Using gauges, we check that the gaps between fire doors and frames are between 2mm and 4mm. Any bigger, and fire and smoke could find their way beyond the door, into the next room, to pose a danger.
Hinges
As part of a fire door maintenance check, our personnel ensure that doors have at least three hinges fitted, with the screws in place, and that there is a CE mark that reflects the rating of the door.
Closers
Our fire door specialists also inspect the closers to make sure they shut, and latch the door closed, from any open position. This is a check that also includes a full inspection of the intumescent seals.
Markings
All fire doors should have the correct signage fitted, but this will differ based on the type of installation. We will ensure the correct signage is firmly fixed and displayed on both sides of your doors.
Retainers
If a retainer is fitted to a set of fire doors, this also undergoes inspection to confirm the doors close in the event of a fire alarm sounding. We will also ensure the retainers have the right signage.
With a fire door maintenance service available in every area across South London or Surrey, including Croydon, Dorking, Epsom, Kingston, Sutton, Wallington and Wimbledon, we can keep the property and your documentation up to date with the latest legislation for our sector.
Modifications, replacements and upgrades can be made on the same day as our initial visit if required. We carry fast-moving spare parts in our van fleet so that, in the event of issues being found, we can still leave your property in a safe and fire-controlled condition.
